Custom Well Fields let you report on wells using organization-specific information that goes beyond the standard Upstream+ well attributes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a custom field has been added through the uploader, it can appear in Advanced Filters<\/strong> as a Well Extra<\/strong> field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to Apply a Custom Well Filter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1. Open a report that supports Advanced Filters, such as Well Summary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Select Advanced Filters<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Locate the appropriate Well Extra<\/strong> field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Select the value you want to report on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Apply the filter.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The active filter is displayed with the custom field name and selected value so you can see exactly how the report is being limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Custom Field Values Come from Your Well Data<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The available filter values are based on the values that were imported for your wells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If your custom field contains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • North<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Central<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • South<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      those values can be made available as filter selections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      This means you do not have to maintain a separate list of filter choices. The classifications already associated with your wells become the basis for the filter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Combining Custom Fields with Other Filters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Custom Well Fields can be used alongside standard Upstream+ reporting filters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      For example, you might combine:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      • State = Texas<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Field = Permian<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Well Extra: Operating Area = North<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        This lets you progressively narrow the report to the specific group of wells you want to analyze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Use Custom Fields for Organization-Specific Reporting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        Custom Well Fields are particularly useful for classifications that exist inside your organization but may not exist in the source accounting system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Common examples include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          \n
        • Internal asset groups<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Acquisition portfolios<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Operating teams<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Engineering classifications<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Development stages<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Management reporting groups<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          Instead of forcing those classifications into a standard accounting or well field, you can preserve them as their own custom attributes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          Keeping Filter Values Consistent<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          Advanced Filters work best when custom values are entered consistently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          For example, these values would be treated as different labels:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

          • North<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • NORTH<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • North Region<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

            If they all represent the same group, use a single naming convention in the uploader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Consistent field names and values make filtering more predictable and make saved reporting views easier to maintain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Adding New Values Later<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            You can continue adding or updating custom values as your organization changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            For example, if you later add a new operating area named West<\/code>, update the appropriate wells in the uploader and import the revised well information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The new classification can then become available anywhere that custom Well Extra values are supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Creating Better Reporting Structures<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            Custom fields give organizations a way to make Upstream+ reflect how they actually manage their assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Standard fields answer questions such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              \n
            • What state is this well in?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • What field is it associated with?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            • Who operates it?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

              Custom Well Fields can answer questions specific to your business:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

              • Which internal team owns this asset?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • Which acquisition did it come from?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • Which management portfolio does it belong to?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
              • Which internal development stage is it in?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

                That makes Advanced Filters useful not only for accounting analysis, but also for operational and management reporting.<\/p>\n\r\n\t\t\t
