Custom Well Fields"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upstream+ allows organizations to add their own custom information to wells during the <a href=\"https:\/\/upstreamreporting.app\/support\/?p=21059\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"21059\">import process<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Custom Well Fields are useful when your organization tracks information that is not included in the standard Upstream+ well fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Examples might include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Internal operating regions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engineering classifications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Acquisition groups<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Asset teams<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Internal portfolio categories<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Custom reporting groups<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other organization-specific well attributes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once imported, these custom values can become part of the well information available in Upstream+.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where Custom Well Fields Are Defined<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Custom Well Fields are created in the <strong>Wells<\/strong> worksheet of the Upstream+ Excel uploader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The available locations are identified in the uploader&#8217;s <strong>Instructions<\/strong> tab as <strong>User Extra Field<\/strong> columns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of leaving the generic <code>Extra User Field<\/code> heading in place, replace the heading with the name you want Upstream+ to use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Example<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suppose your organization groups wells into three internal operating areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You could rename an Extra User Field column:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><code>Operating Area<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then populate the rows beneath it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the workbook is imported, Upstream+ can associate the custom <code>Operating Area<\/code> value with each corresponding well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Add a Custom Field<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the Upstream+ uploader in Excel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the <strong>Wells<\/strong> worksheet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Locate one of the columns designated as an <strong>Extra User Field<\/strong> in the Instructions tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replace <code>Extra User Field<\/code> with a descriptive field name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the appropriate value for each well.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save the workbook.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Import the updated workbook into Upstream+.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Choose Clear Field Names<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The column heading becomes the field name used by Upstream+.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use names that will make sense to other users when they encounter the field later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good examples include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><code>Operating Area<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>Asset Team<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>Development Phase<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>Acquisition Group<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>Internal Well Class<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Avoid names that are overly generic, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><code>Field 1<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>Other<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>Code<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>Custom<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clear names make custom fields much easier to understand when they are later used for reporting and filtering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Values Are Associated with Individual Wells<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each custom value should be entered on the same row as the corresponding well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upstream+ uses the well information in the uploader to associate that custom value with the correct well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><code>100000 | TACO BLAST 1 | North<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">means that the custom value <code>North<\/code> belongs to well <code>100000<\/code>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be careful when copying or sorting data in Excel to make sure custom values remain aligned with the correct well records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You Can Use More Than One Custom Field<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The uploader provides multiple User Extra Field positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That means an organization can maintain several custom well attributes at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Well<\/th><th>Operating Area<\/th><th>Asset Team<\/th><th>Development Phase<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Well A<\/td><td>North<\/td><td>Team 1<\/td><td>Producing<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Well B<\/td><td>South<\/td><td>Team 2<\/td><td>Development<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Well C<\/td><td>North<\/td><td>Team 1<\/td><td>Producing<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each column becomes its own custom field in Upstream+.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Updating Existing Wells<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Custom fields can also be added to wells that already exist in Upstream+.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the updated Wells worksheet is imported, Upstream+ can update the existing well record with the additional custom information rather than requiring you to create a new well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This makes it possible to expand your well metadata over time as your reporting needs change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Best Practices<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Keep custom field names consistent between uploads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, if you initially create:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><code>Operating Area<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">do not rename it to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><code>Op Area<\/code><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">on a later upload unless you intentionally want to create or change the field definition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also a good practice to use consistent values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, choose one convention:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><code>North<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>Central<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>South<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">rather than mixing similar values such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><code>North<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>NORTH<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>Northern<\/code><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><code>N<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Consistent data makes custom fields more useful for reporting and filtering later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What&#8217;s Next?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After custom fields have been imported, they can be made available throughout Upstream+ wherever Well Extra fields are supported, including Advanced Filters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This allows organizations to report on their wells using classifications that are unique to their own operations.<\/p>\n\r\n\t\t\t<div
